This study investigates the market for personal care products in China from 1978 to 1987, discusses the topics such as market structure, government regulations as well as the supply and the demand for personal care products.

In order to study the demand for personal care products, we set up an econometric model, collect historical data and consider factors such as national income, population growth rate, and ratio of urban to rural population size, as well as the level of people's education and their life style.

The study concludes that, even though all the factors are important, the factors of income, education and life style have the most influence on the level of the demand.

The above model is also used to predict the demand for 1988-1992. The prediction indicates that the demand will remain strong in this period. However, for producers to have competitive advantage, they must become more efficient in production technology and more responsive to the needs of the consumers.
