Thesis (M.A.)--Saint Mary's College of California, 2016.
The percentage of twice-exceptional students within the special education population makes up a very small fraction, in part due to the difficulties inherent in identifying twice exceptionality. As a result of the challenges associated with identifying students with twice exceptionality, there is a likelihood that students will not receive the full range of appropriate services needed. This study investigated the effects of a mindfulness based behavioral intervention on the on-task behavior of three elementary age students with twice-exceptionality. A multiple-baseline across students, single subject design was utilized to assess whether mindfulness training resulted in increased on-task behaviors. Visual analysis of graphed data was used to determine that mindfulness effectively supported increasing the percentage of on-task behavior for students with twice-exceptionality. The goal was to provide empirical support for an intervention that may be implemented in the future to more appropriately aid and support students with twice-exceptionality.
