Thesis (M.A.S.E.)--Caldwell College, 2016.
This action research project began with conducting social counselling groups for students with emotional and behavioral disabilities. The participants involved were recommended fifth grade students who were in both inclusion and resource elementary classrooms. They were selected to participate due to a high rate of inappropriate behaviors. The group counseling sessions took place in the school psychologist's office. The sessions involved discussion on potential social situations and social problems. From there, the counselor discussed solutions, role played possible skills and strategies to use, as well as sat and consulted with the students. Over the course of implementing these groups, data was taken on the challenging behaviors to determine whether the addition of the groups was changing the behaviors occurring. The counseling groups concluded to be beneficial to students as data showed a decrease in inappropriate behavior and skills were carried over and implemented in classrooms.
