Thesis (Ph.D.)--The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, 2013.
Women of the Baby Boom generation were the game changers---they broke the mold built by previous generations that dictated that their primary purpose in life was to make a home and care for a family. Instead, many sought fulfillment by enriching their lives by pursuing careers outside their homes. They endeavored to enter, and even succeed, in fields untapped and often unwelcome to women. The influences and motivational drivers behind the behavior of women have not been well characterized. Although there are many studies that have evaluated the attitudes toward women that entered the professional workforce during this rapidly changing time, there is little research that evaluates the impact of this environment on their behavior. The purpose of this dissertation is to look at the lived experiences of these women when they entered the workforce and throughout their careers and to understand their point of view.
