Thesis (M.A.)--Pacifica Graduate Institute, 2017.
This thesis builds upon depth psychological theories that explain, examine, and amplify the idea that an individual's narrative or personal myth is built from untold stories of the past. This individual myth or narrative is determined in large part by the myths and narratives transmitted through familial, cultural, and biological stories passed down through generations. The methodologies utilized in the writing of this topic are hermeneutic, heuristic, and alchemical hermeneutic. This research has been pulled from depth-oriented studies and literature and a variety of other empirical research and literature. The thesis makes suggestions for clinicians to include personal mythic material in a therapeutic setting, bringing a depth psychologically oriented perspective to bear on a cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavioral, or narrative rewriting framework.
