Thesis (Ph.D.)--Capella University, 2017.
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between self-efficacy, parenting styles, and empowerment of parents with children who participate in performing arts. Education level, socioeconomic status, and generational poverty were the variables used to discover any relationships between those variables and the parenting style (authoritarian, authoritative, or permissive) and self-efficacy of the parents. An exploratory, correlational, cross-sectional research design was employed with a purposive sample of 89 parents from two performing-arts educational programs located in Florida. Participants who had at least one child participating in performing-arts activities were invited to participate. Participants completed Schwarzer's (1965) General Self-Efficacy Scale, Buri's (1991) Parenting Authority Questionnaire, the Family Empowerment Scale, and a demographic survey developed for the study. The Pearson correlation test determined the presence of relationships among the variables.
