To develop content for the website, a 2.08-acre property adjacent to a 23-acre fragmented forest was observed, as the habitat became increasingly fragmented, over a twenty-year span. In ecological study, edge is the interface between two, or more, habitats or ecosystems. As a result, there is a lot of biotic activity on the edge and great diversity of species. Habitat fragmentation, sometimes reducing available habitat, increases the amount of edge. Edges can be barriers to dispersal of species and their genes.

In recent years, Citizen Science efforts have become mainstream, popular, and helpful to the scientific community. Documenting the occurrence of species, land use patterns, and similar topics have become increasing common and scientifically important, and have allowed interested citizens to contribute to the body of data and to the conversation about nature. This analytical essay describes the processes, challenges, and successes involved in building the website.
