Thesis (D.A.)--St. John's University (New York), 1994.
Anne Rice's work is both popular with readers and well received by the critics. Her importance as a fiction writer is documented in many reviews and articles. Her great achievement has been to take the age-old tale of the vampire and make it something new. She has done this by combining the most innately attractive and repulsive qualities of the mythical creature with human fears and dreams. With the publication of the third book of The Vampire Chronicles (The Queen of the Damned), Anne Rice has become the indisputable master of the genre in the late twentieth century.Subjects--Topical Terms:

This research essay rests on the thesis that Anne Rice's The Vampire Chronicles have brought feminist fiction into a new dimension. I will examine Rice's work from the perspective of gothic feminism. The basis for appreciation of Rice's work lies in an examination of this gothic feminism, as well as its literate and lush form.

Anne Rice's novels ultimately build a bridge; they connect the dark tales of past centuries with a present, modern consciousness. The triumph of her work is to change a once male-dominated genre into a feminist one; the trilogy ironically espouses the rights of the human race, despite the fact that most of the characters feast on its blood.
