Thesis (M.S.)--Illinois State University, 2016.
In order to understand the scientific goals behind conservation, students must reason with ecological and evolutionary principles. Habitat suitability analyses illustrate human interdependence within ecosystems and provide opportunities to examine students' understandings of conservation, ecology, and evolution. Students' understandings about conservation, ecology, and evolution were examined quantitatively and qualitatively to assess effectiveness of the designed lab activity in developing scientific conceptions, explore limiting factors, adaptations, abiotic components, conservation challenges, and identify importance students place on conservation.
