Administration is an important issue in Chinese higher education. The administrative system has developed into a highly centralized one. Problems created by the system are evident and inherent. The Chinese government reserves the final authority to make decisions on important matters concerning higher education. While the government has made efforts to solve the problems that stem from centralism, it is hard to overcome all the disadvantages overnight. Decentralization can help construct a more effective administration. Although it seems difficult for the government to give up all power over the university, it is time to respect and recognize academic independence.Subjects--Topical Terms:
