Thesis (Ph.D.)--New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, 2016.
The purpose of the research was to determine whether a relationship exists between the way Christian college students practice their faith and their level of faith maturity. A population of Christian college students who practiced their faith primarily through campus-based collegiate ministries rather than traditional local churches was identified. Often, modern youth ministry is blamed for many Christian students leaving the faith once they enter college. Although some Christian students may reduce their attendance at local churches while they are in college, this study shows that these same students may continue to engage in faith-maturing activities.

Multiple regression analysis was used to determine whether church attendance and participation in campus-based collegiate ministries are predictors of higher faith maturity in Christian college students. A one-way analysis of variance was performed to examine differences of faith maturity between levels of church-based and campus-based ministry attendance. The research led to several implications concerning the spiritual dropout rate of Christian college students, the importance of churches ministering to all age groups, and the results of campus-based collegiate ministries that can serve as de facto churches on college campuses. The goal of this research was to examine relationships between participation levels of college students in local churches and campus-based collegiate ministries in order to suggest best practices for both youth and college ministry.
