Thesis (M.A.)--Sotheby's Institute of Art - New York, 2016.
Despite the relationship based nature of the art market, many seller-to-buyer interactions have moved online, including the traditional business of art auctions. Given the immediate nature of most online transactions, this same immediacy is expected from online auctions. This has created the necessity for new logistical processes in order to match client expectations. Through an examination of three of the top online auction houses, Paddle8, Auctionata and Artnet, I will examine the logistical processes of online auctions and how this effects customer satisfaction. In order to provide the most convenient service to customers, online auctions must first evaluate their logistical processes such as inventory and shipping. Restructuring these processes will help solve issues with customer trust, logistical efficiency, and authenticity.
