This research was to discover and understand the unique factors influencing entrepreneurial activities among African immigrants in the United States. The general problem was that African immigrants face numerous challenges in obtaining high paying jobs commensurate with their high human capital on their arrival to the United States. Many African immigrants resort to entrepreneurship in order to climb the economic and social ladder. The particular problem was that quantitative researchers could not establish a relationship between human capital and entrepreneurial activities for the African immigrants who have successfully adapted entrepreneurship as a means of survival. This finding does not agree with human capital theory that suggests that high human capital should relate to high entrepreneurial activities. Therefore, a need exists for qualitative researchers to identify the factors influencing the entrepreneurial activities of African immigrants in the United States. The purpose of this qualitative single case study was to identify the unique factors influencing the African immigrant entrepreneurial activities. African immigrants could make immediate use of those unique factors to become entrepreneurs, and seek better quality of life for themselves and families. The results could help policy makers adjust ethnic and minority business programs if research identified unique factors influencing the entrepreneurial activities of African immigrants. This research utilized qualitative case study to investigate the African immigrant entrepreneurs in depth and within their entrepreneurial activities. Participants, comprising of 20 male and female African immigrants in diverse businesses and economic settings in Las Vegas, United States responded to interviews about their experiences in a single case study. The data collection method was one-to-one interviews that were audio recorded and analyzed using NVivo 10 validated software. Thirteen themes comprising of social and human capital emerged as the factors influencing entrepreneurial activities among African immigrants in the United States. The thirteen themes were as follows: (a) Faith in God, (b) Hard work, (c) Drive to succeed, (d) Pride of ownership, (e) financial limitations, (f) misconceptions about Africans, (g) accent, (k) cultural intervention and assimilation, (l) racism, (m) fear of failure, (n) inability to secure job, (o) job security, (p) and financial reward. The results show that the entrepreneurial activities of African immigrants in the United States do not depend on human capital alone. Recommendations for future research are, first is to do the same study with participants from North Africa, South Africa, East Africa, and Central Africa because most of the participants were immigrants from West Africa. Second recommendation is to do the same study with white African immigrants because participants were all black African immigrants. A third recommendation is to conduct the same study in different regions or cities within the United States because of the influence of environmental factors. The fourth is to conduct the same study with participants in different areas of business because the constraints and regulations for all businesses differ. Finally, the fifth is to conduct same study with participants of identical gender.
