Thesis (M.A.)--University of Central Arkansas, 2015.
With the growing interest of applying comic books and graphic novels to literary study, it becomes increasingly more important to explore the technique of collaboration between writer and artist. Using 19th century British Victorian tradition of combining a writer with an illustrator as a historical comparison to contemporary comic collaborations. One aspect explored is the frequent diminishing of the illustrator's contribution to a supplement to the writer's work. This is to present the damages that occur when the visual aspect is neglected and the success of when a partnership is truly implemented. While the more negative examples of collaboration presented here are of notable works, they will be used to demonstrate the potential the creators could have achieved had they implemented a more mutual partnership.
