Universities are devoting large amounts of resources to attempting to teach entrepreneurship. More than 800 colleges and universities in the United States have entrepreneurial classes or actual degree programs in entrepreneurship, and more than 120,000 college students are taking courses in entrepreneurship. Given the interest in entrepreneurship education, it is worthwhile to investigate whether business curriculums are related to the entrepreneurial orientation of students. The purpose of this study was to test the theory of Individual Entrepreneurial Orientation (IEO) that compares the curriculum choice to IEO score, controlling for gender and business ownership for undergraduate students at a large University with campuses nationwide and online. A sample of 375 business and non-business majors at a for profit university was obtained and given a survey that asked questions based on the theory of the individual entrepreneurial orientation. The results of the statistical analyses showed that regardless of the variables or how they were examined in relation to each other, the entrepreneurial orientation of the students in this study was not associated with any of the variables that were investigated. Entrepreneurial orientation did not significantly differ based on any single factor, or any of the factors together. The entrepreneurial orientation of the participants was not significantly different between the business majors and the non-business majors. Even more, the entrepreneurial orientation of the participants was not significantly different based on whether they were business majors who owned a business as compared those who had not owned a business. Finally, the entrepreneurial orientation of the students in this study was not significantly different between males and females regardless of whether they were business majors or whether they had owned a business.
