Many contemporary exhibitions use conformist themes and techniques that satisfy the human mind's need for orderly processing of perceptions and data. In this thesis, I argue that while such an approach can be useful to help visitors to gain an easier understanding of an exhibition's subject matter, it does not capture the true complexity of our universe of perceptions and interpretations. Thus, exhibition themes and techniques need to be found to express the multi-layered nature of complex issues and objects. In order to illustrate this point, I have developed an exhibition project that views the problem of poverty from a multitude of subjective and highly personal perspectives and viewpoints, reflecting the complex dimension of the subject and its defiance of simplistic answers..
