The study of cultural social identity and information security training in relation to attitudes toward risk perception of Hispanic students was an area not researched heavily. The purposes of this quantitative pre-post experimental study was to evaluate the effect of information security training on attitude toward risk perception and evaluate the effect of cultural social identity on attitude toward risk perception in a Hispanic student population. A sample of 32 Hispanic students enrolled in a South Texas college were divided into control and intervention groups. Question one centered on the differences in attitude towards risk perception between the control and intervention group from pre-test to post-test. A two-factor general linear model repeated measures ANOVA statistical test was conducted. The results indicated: (1) device security was statistically significant; (2) password mean difference was not statistically significant; (3) proactive measures showed a statistically significant difference; (4) updating was statistically significant. Question two examined the differences in attitudes towards risk perception for Hispanic individuals who identify highly on Hispanic social identity versus low social identity. As expected, the treatment changed the instrument response metrics that mirrored the results for research question one, but the germane subject of social identity measure confirmed prior research in that high culture identity levels were associated with low cyber security scores. The most dramatic example was the device security sub-scale metric where a 100% social identity score correlated to a less than 20% device security score. These research findings corroborated previous research in the field. The findings suggest information security training did have an effect on behavioral intent and social identity played a role in the attitude toward perception of risk in the Hispanic student population.
