This dissertation examines The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn in Arabic Translations, and how translators transformed this masterpiece into Arabic. By examining The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, I adopt the "Translation as Problem and Solution Approach" to investigate translation issues at three levels of meanings; above the word, the lexical, and the phonological level. To accomplish this, I analyze three Arabic translations for The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, published in three different eras in Egypt: 1958, 1992, and 2015. The Arabic translations used in this study are the only two unabridged translations of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mahir Naseem in 1958, and Nasr Abdulrahman in 2015, the third translation is abridged version for Shawqi Alameer in 1992.

In this dissertation, I use example analysis to compare selected examples of cultural terms, metaphor, similes, allusions, and onomatopoeia to the original text, and then evaluate translation procedures proposed by Newmark (1988), Mandelblit (1995), Pierini (2007), Leppihalme (1997), and Ullmann (1962), on corresponding translation problems. Then, I propose modifications when applicable. This dissertation aims to modify then recommend some translation procedures as solutions to selected translation problems, and to the Arabic translation of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn in general. It is also an example of translation theory application into practice.
