Thesis (Ph.D.)--Regent University, 2016.
The study used path analysis to explore the effects of family structure, resilience, academic efficacy, and demographic characteristics on academic achievement among Black college students. The study fills the gap in the literature by providing a research-based path model describing students' levels of achievement based on their family background, and levels of resilience and academic efficacy. A hypothesized model was developed based on theory and prior research. A path analysis demonstrated a close fit model (RMSEA = .026; CFI= .970). There was no significant effect on academic achievement, suggesting that effects related to campus environment and familial integration should be of consideration. Study findings provide important implications for students, families, clinicians, and university personnel.
