The purpose of this study was to examine college-choice factors influencing high school student-athletes (SA) selection of a Division I Historically Black College and University. There were a total of 66 participants. Each participant were members of the North Carolina Central University football (55 respondents) and men's basketball (11 respondents) teams.

There were a total of 66 participants. Each participant were members of the North Carolina Central University football (55 respondents) and men's basketball (11 respondents) teams.
520 $a The objective was to assist athletic departments in identifying characteristics in student-athletes that would draw them to their respective universities. This study utilized the College-Choice Factors of NCAA Division 1 Football Players at a Southeastern University (CCF) to gather data, which consists of 63 questions, to gauge student-athlete interest in each option when it came to their selection of the institution. The study found that the "Opportunity to win a conference championship" was the highest rated factor for all participants in the study. The "Opportunity to win a conference championship" was the most influential factor recorded for football student-athletes. Though minor, the student-athletes value the academic choice factors of the university. (mean = 3.11; SD = 1.03) "Relationships with potential college teammates at the college(mean = 3.00; SD = 1.10) and Opportunity to win a conference championship" (mean = 3.00; SD = 1.18) were the most influential college-choice factor for men's basketball. Basketball's top factors all were related to athletics.
