Thesis (Ph.D.)--Capella University, 2015.
This study employed Clark Moustakas's phenomenological approach in an effort to seek a clear understanding of mental health professionals' experiences working with divorced families. Prior to this study, there is no identified research addressing the experiences that licensed mental health professionals had working with divorced families. Eight participants were selected from four different counties in Pennsylvania in the United States to complete semi-structured interviews. The participants were asked to explain their experiences working with divorced families. Participants explicitly identified their experiences as mental health professionals and from these statements; I was able to draw conclusions of these experiences specific to their work with parents, children, and the judicial system. Furthermore the information the mental health professionals gave identified significant challenges and barriers they have working with the divorced population.
