This study was conducted using a phenomenological qualitative methodology in order to investigate the effects of bullying on students with learning disabilities in an urban school district in the Eastern United States. The purpose of the study was to understand the influence of bullying towards students with learning disabilities and how they cope with the bullying experience. Ten students who have learning disabilities and who have experienced bullying participated in the study. Each participant was individually interviewed. The conclusions from the study suggested that the bullying experiences affected the participants' academics and altered the way they communicated with their peers. The conclusions from the study suggested that the students were affected by the bullying in similar ways but coped with the bullying differently. Seven out of ten participants indicated that their grades were negatively affected. Their relationship with classmates or friends was changed, but most participants coped with the bullying in positive ways, in that they continued to communicate with family and friends at home. Future research and other support should be created to help students with learning disabilities who experience bullying.
