The purpose of this study was to measure perceived psychosocial outcomes of middle school intramural participants in psychological development, social development, and school connectedness and to identify differences between gender, grade level, and ethnicity. One hundred and four middle school students from Wake County, North Carolina were surveyed using a modified version of the Social Outcomes questionnaire. Descriptive statistics, T-tests, and ANOVAs were conducted to determine significant differences.

Data revealed students perceived highest degrees of outcomes in areas of bonding with teammates, improving ability to work with a team, and increasing feeling of belonging at school. T-tests and ANOVAs showed significant differences between groups based on grade level and ethnicity. No differences were found based on gender. The research conducted provides information needed to educate policy-makers about the importance of providing inclusive intramural programs for middle school students to enhance not only physical health, but also psychological and social health.
