The current edition of the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) Best Practices in School Psychology includes multiple roles of the current school psychologist including: assessment, individual and group counselor, consultant, and engineer of systems level service delivery. This study aims to answer " how has the role of the school psychologist changed over time with respect to the inclusion, function, and time dedicated to assessment in professional literature?" Information gathered from the content analysis of Best Practices in School Psychology, it can be seen that the role of the school psychologist has changed over time with respect to assessment, but one must ask how other aspects of the role are changing. In answering the question of how the role of the school psychologist changed over time, the inclusion of chapters in Best Practices in School Psychology about assessment in professional literature is decreasing, as the inclusion of a variety of other topics is increasing.
