Thesis (M.A.)--National University, 2015.
This thesis explores the reaction of the American press from 1915 to 2000 to the Armenian Genocide. The purpose of this study is to find what circumstances caused the interest in the Armenian tragedy, shaping certain perceptions and concerns, and then what led to the loss of memory and awareness about the issue. The study reveals that certain political, economic, social and cultural pressures contributed to the media's presenting the Armenian tragedy in a certain light, strongly affecting Americans' consciousness in regards to the issue. As part of a larger picture, the thesis sheds light on why the Armenian Genocide, although long established by global scholarship as the first genocide of the twentieth century, is still not widely known as such.

The Armenian Genocide is the biggest sorrow of the Armenian people, descendants of those who were lost as a result of the horrendous extermination campaign almost a century ago. The Armenian Genocide remains a significant issue to Armenians today. The issue is also a global one, as it sheds light on international crimes of similar nature. Thus, by examining the tendencies of the US media coverage that shaped American perceptions of the Armenian issue, this research contributes not only to the knowledge of the Armenian Genocide but to all other genocides.
