This study was designed to determine current health behaviors and the interest in staff health promotion interventions. As part of the implementation process of a wellness policy, an employee wellness status and interest survey was conducted amongst all the school district's employees. To inform staff health promotion efforts, the study assessed current rates of physical activity among staff and whether they vary by type of job type, gender, age, and health status. Additionally, determining the types of health promotion activities of interest by the employees as to whether or not they varied by the demographic characteristics and if they varied by their current physical activity behaviors was researched and analyzed. This information could inform the design of resources and opportunities for employees to improve their health while in their workplace. The results depicted that males were likely to be categorized as high and females were more likely to have IPAQ scores categorized as low based on the IPAQ category scores (low, moderate, high). On the contrary, females and those employees aged 50-59 and teacher's assistants were more likely to participate in employer provided health and wellness interventions. The top health and wellness programs of interest were strength/fitness training, improving balance, flexibility, muscle endurance, and stress/weight management. Barriers such as family and child caring responsibilities, high demand in time, and transportation allow for higher likelihood of participation in an employer provided intervention. Future research may consider performing pre/post analyses on an existing wellness intervention to identify possible efficiencies in the workplace.
