Thesis (D.C.S.)--Colorado Technical University, 2015.
Business-IT alignment (BIA) has ranked as the number one issue facing top management in recent years. As business strategy and information technology (IT) strategy continues to receive more and more attention from researchers (Luftman & Derksen, 2012), so grows the need to solve an apparent gap in achieving BIA. The common position that all researchers take is that BIA has significant advantages for businesses yet, many businesses struggle to achieve BIA. BIA studies help business executives and IT departments understand the relationship between how the business performs and how its use information systems (IS). Although IT is used just as much by large corporations as it is by small businesses, there is little research of BIA in small businesses. Little research has surfaced as we now move rapidly toward the cloud and cloud computing technologies as it relates to strategy in small businesses, although for small businesses in America, this research seems to still not exist. This study examines BIA in small businesses, in particular, to explore how cloud computing may be the missing piece to BIA in small businesses of all industries here in America. This research ranges from startups to established businesses both that share in common the desperate need to align. This would also include those small businesses who have already adopted some form of cloud computing technology and are in need of being strategically pushed forward.
