Thesis (M.S.W.)--California State University, Long Beach, 2015.
The purpose of this project was to write a grant to develop a program that aims to reduce the mental health disparities for Vietnamese Americans. Many Vietnamese American immigrants experienced major mental health risks prior to resettlement in the United States, including the trauma of civil war, communist reeducation camps, the boat-person experience, and lengthy detention in refugee camps. A review of the literature indicated that limited mental health literacy among this immigrant population and few culturally sensitive service providers contribute to the low mental health service utilization among Vietnamese Americans.
