Drawn from a review of existing literature related to new play development, I shall select ten contrasting theatre companies who emphasize new play development as part of their artistic mission. Interviews with representatives from these companies will focus on the following questions: How do they define success in new play development? How does the model they employ contribute to that success? How do they evaluate the effectiveness of their new play development strategies?

Based on these interviews and a review of existing analyses and literature, the project will suggest some best practices for future new play development and a proposal for a future new play development process.
