The purpose of this dissertation is to introduce the graduate education system of China, with special attention to its international context. The main focus is on the status of Chinese graduate education since its resumption in 1978 taking into account the foreign influences that have shaped its evolution. Some attention will also be devoted to tracing its historical background and to considering future trends.
