Individuals with disabilities face enormous challenges when trying to obtain and maintain successful employment in rehabilitation programs. The primary focus for the Illinois Division of Rehabilitation is to place transitional students into successful employment. Although the United States has adopted many laws and amendments that assist in providing employment opportunities, accommodations and services are needed to ensure that this population is ready and able for employment. The unemployment rate of transitioning students with disabilities remains high in comparison to nondisabled students and the general population. Using secondary data from the Illinois Division of Rehabilitation, this study used logistic regression to identify variables that predict successful employment outcomes with transitional students. The results revealed that minority and non-Successful Transitional Experience Program customer status were statistically significant predictors of successful employment; however, age, community services, region, Successful Transitional Experience Program, and transportation were not significant factors for successful employment with transitional students. Further research is needed to expand upon the data collected from private and public rehabilitation agencies, closed cases, and other regions within the Illinois Division of Rehabilitation Services.
