Workforce development has been identified by human resource departments within organizations as an effective way of grooming employees to perform tasks, thereby improving the organizations' human capital. Workforce development programs play a vital role in the preparation of young people for the world of work. Some of the young people who visit the office of this researcher fall into the category of at-risk ethnic youth. With that in mind, this researcher attempts to assist them in gaining training and viable employment. Although workforce development program alumni transition into organizations, the ones who are excelling at their jobs and subsequently in their personal lives are not being asked to share how they used and benefited from the components of the workforce development programs that contributed to their success. In an effort to fill the gap created by the absence of the voices of these successful ethnic youth alumni of workforce development programs, this researcher explored how successful ethnic youth alumni used and benefited from the workforce development programs. The research was guided by the following research question: What can be learned from successful ethnic youth alumni regarding how they used and benefited from workforce development programs? The artifacts that were used during the research included program information, work experience program package, job application packages from the workforce development program, and web-based program information. A 9-item data collection instrument was used to conduct interviews with the successful workforce development program ethnic youth alumni. The significant findings provided the alumni's perceptions of the uses of and benefits they received from the programs. Program planners and administrators may use the comments provided by successful alumni to help with the planning and programmatics of future programs. Recommendations for future research include (a) research in other regions of the country to determine if the outcomes are similar; (b) research in industries in which the U.S. Department of Labor has projected high job growth, to groom participants to benefit from those jobs; and (c) further research in programs in which energy is studied.
