The English Language Learner (ELL) population is one of the fastest growing populations in schools. However, many new teachers are ill-prepared to work with this population. This research studied various practices that affect student outcomes to provide teachers with a better understanding of how to help their ELLs. As researcher, I conducted interviews with two Latina students in good academic standing (one from a bilingual family and the other from a Spanish-speaking family), their parents, and their teachers to identify the curricular, instructional, student-to-student, and parental practices implemented to help them succeed at school. In addition to the interviews, I observed the practices implemented by their teachers and the students' reactions toward them. The triangulation of the observations and the interviews provided a more accurate perception of the learning environment at home and school.
