Fine arts education of children in grades K-12 has declined significantly in many school districts and classrooms across the country in recent years. Students affected by the shift in fine arts training are increasingly provided with fewer fine arts learning opportunities, less exposure to fine arts, and fewer opportunities to incorporate creative expression in the classroom. This absence does not provide the exposure needed for students beyond grades K-12. After high school, these students become adults and explore fine arts learning options at college, university, and private organizations, as teachers at these higher levels receive them with little to no previous experience. The purpose of the research study was to examine the perceptions of college, university, and private organization fine arts teachers who must constantly, increasingly, and effectively meet the task of training adults with limited or no fine arts skills. The research study examined patterns and trends associated with challenges identified by fine arts teachers at the collegiate and private organization level. For the purpose of this research study, the collegiate and private organization level reflects the adult level of learning for students. Data collected and analyzed suggested higher level education teachers experience many challenges when educating new adult fine arts learners. Among the challenges identified were lack of discipline and experience from students. Suggestions to assist collegiate and private organization fine arts teachers with coping with teaching this new medium of fine arts adult students has been included in this research study. Suggestions for revisions to fine arts curriculum, improved coping skills, better communication, increased exposure to fine arts without increases to school budgets, and the push for increased fine arts programs participation at both the fine arts collegiate and private organization level and K-12 grade level were also included.
