Universities are havens for research development, with access to facilities, equipment, and, most importantly, people; idea exchange and knowledge development create an environment that is conducive to the growth of research productivity. The outcome of this productivity is contingent upon the resources available and the degree of their contribution. The approach for this study was to illustrate the growth of research productivity using knowledge management tools in university research centers. This study presents the methodologies that illustrated the trend of academic research production systems in four centers of excellence in the State University of New York system. To determine significance, a one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to analyze the empirical data. The results show a significant improvement in research productivity when knowledge management tools are used.
