Polaroids rrom an Introvert: A Manifesto of Still-Life Poetics is a collection of poetry that centers around family dysfunction, abnormal social behaviors, and solitary moments in time that speak either directly or subtly to the ideas of isolation and introversion. The poems were written over the course of three years and exemplify the range of aesthetics I have explored in that time. Though there is no continuous narrative, the poems are thematically linked by cause and effect related to homelessness, addictions, anxieties, teenage angst, and loneliness, among other related topics. A through line, however, can be most explicitly explored in the "Polaroid" poems, which recount five events over the course of twenty years and act as a foundation for the introversion studied in the other poems, as well as a foundation for the subsequent healing, understanding, and forgiveness that comes with such exploration.
