For years, I felt like a supporting character in my own life, a sentiment from which I derived the name of this thesis. The title describes me as merely an extra in a scene the actual hero of the movie runs through, but I attempted to place the reader in my skin and bring a sharp eye - and uncommon candor - to moments that came to define my life, lending gravitas to events small and large. Balancing humor, sentiment and pathos, and filtered through pop-culture sensibilities, "Second Tall Man" tells of my struggle with the inertia of passivity, of learning to love and my battle to emerge from a shell and become the man I always intended to be.
