This qualitative study explored the connections between women's development, feminine spirituality, and positive experiences of motherhood using the narrative approach. Data was collected through 1-on-1 interviews with the participants, 15 women between the ages of 32 and 71 who had positive experiences of motherhood. Individual narratives were created for each participant, and Thematic Content Analysis was used to answer the main questions of this study. A transformative change report was also included to discover how this study impacted the participants, as well as the researcher; this report includes written reflections by participants and researcher. Ten themes emerged from the data related to how positive experiences of motherhood affect a woman's development; the top 5 were (a) friendship with other women and mentoring from other mothers; (b) expansion of love; (c) overwhelming sense of responsibility and commitment; (d) making and maintaining connections to children; and (e) pleasurable feelings of laughter, joy, beauty, and gratitude. The study found 10 significant patterns related to how motherhood functions as a catalyst for self-discovery, personal growth, and transformation; the top 5 were (a) reevaluating values and priorities; (b) going beyond the self and taking the long view; (c) revising identity; (d) questioning spiritual beliefs and religious practices; and (e) finding strength and perseverance. Nine themes were found related to how positive experiences of motherhood share common values and characteristics with feminine spirituality; the top 5 were (a) woman-to-woman bonds; (b) nourishing others; (c) valuing connectedness; (d) being affirmed and validated, and (e) teaching kindness and peacefulness. In addition, there were 4 emergent themes related to women's experiences of motherhood; they were (a) expressing negative emotions, and (b) changing dynamics in marriage and partnership; (c) importance of wanting to be a mother, and (d) creating and having a supportive network. This study is distinctive in using both data analysis and personal narratives to examine the overlapping domains of motherhood, women's development, and feminine spirituality.
