The rising cost of health care in the United States is challenging to everyone providing and seeking health care services. This rise in cost has created a large deficit in the quality of care provided to many different patient populations. There are huge sums of health care funding spent on the care for the elderly patient population within the U.S, specifically within the last several years of life. End of life care is currently an extremely costly area of health care. Pre end of life patient care could be altered to assist in decreasing these future expenses. End of life care could be modified to benefit the elderly population better with higher quality care and less critical medical attention. By analyzing the health care practices for end of life care in other countries, the U.S could gain influential knowledge to change current practices.

This capstone was designed to outline and analyze the successful practices utilized by other nations to assist in the development of more cost-effective elderly health care practices. Through researching scholarly articles, this capstone clearly defined practices that could most benefit the U.S and suggestions as to how these changes could be implemented in today's medical field. This document also discussed the significance that making changes and pursued other means of elderly care may have on the U.S health care economy. In analyzing the care methods of countries around the world, alternative solutions were created to benefit the economic state of health care in the United States. The effectiveness of the solutions suggested is shown through the comparison of spending on health care and overall patient view of quality between the U.S and other countries.
