The purpose of this research is to examine the effects of a music intervention on children who are deaf or hard of hearing. Specifically, the paper examines one particular child and the improvements in vocabulary and working memory abilities after two years of a musical intervention. While many studies have demonstrated the efficacy of music therapy and music interventions in hearing children, few studies have been conducted examining the effects on children who have a hearing impairment. A larger scale study is proposed and outlined as a method through which the benefits of music interventions in children with hearing impairments can be shown in a quantitative, evidence based method.
