The Asian Indian population is continuing to grow in the United States; specifically, second-generation college students bring forth a new set of psychological concerns compared to their parents who may have immigrated. Yet, there appears to be the lack of research on the South Asian population and commonly used psychological measures. Collectively, the MMPI and MMPI-2 are the most widely used objective personality measures. Yet, there is limited research on the MMPI-2 and the Asian Indian population. To date, there have been no studies on the MMPI-2-RF comparison of Asian Indian college students in the United States and India. The purpose of the study was to investigate the similarities and differences of the MMPI-2 RF performance of Asian Indian young adults in California and India. The study compared the MMPI-2 RF profiles of 36 participants from in California, and 23 participants from India. Hypotheses predicted that the California group would elevate scales: K, RCd, and RC4. Whereas, the India group would elevate scales: L-r, RC1, and RC8. The Acculturation Scale for Asian Indians (ASAI) was also explored for the California group. Overall results indicated that the California group did not produce statistically significant differences on the MMPI-2 RF. However, the India group produced statistically significant differences on the hypothesized MMPI-2 RF scales. The study provides exploratory cultural considerations for assessment with the young adult Asian Indian population using the MMPI-2 RF.
