This case study examines the history of sheltered workshops and why they were originally created. Then it reviews minimum wage legislation and what exceptions were made for people with disabilities. Moreover it looks at the current economic and political constraints driving current and future policies looking to stop funding agencies that operate sheltered workshops and prevocational programs. Finally, it evaluates the pros and cons of sheltered workshops, and what agencies can do to replace them while giving the individuals who worked in them the services they need to gain meaningful employment.
