Tales from a Losing Season is a collection of six short stories linked thematically by baseball. These stories complicate jock-lit tradition with a critical self-awareness and are intended to appeal to a readership independent of its sports-related subjects. The plots revolve around a wide spectrum of marginal characters through narrative (cultural and gender) transvestism, and the settings reflect the fluid space of baseball as both a local American pastime and a global phenomenon. Most of all, Tales from a Losing Season is a collection of stories that feature tragic figures stricken by a sense of entitlement or hyper-masculinity and the people whose lives they irreversibly alter.
