This study examines stress between correctional officers and correctional supervisors working in California's Central Valley prisons. Research suggests that job-related stress affects correctional officers' attitudes towards their work environment, supervisors, family life as well as their physical and mental health; however, very few studies have examined the relationship between officer's ranks and perceived stress level. This research study reviewed the seminal practices of correctional officers' organizational culture as it relates to stress and job satisfaction. Many have conducted research on prisons and correctional officers; however, there is limited empirical research on California's Central Valley Prisons' working law enforcement professionals. The present study sought to fill a gap in the existing literature pertaining to stress levels and job satisfaction of correctional officers working in the State of California's Central Valley prisons.
