This pilot study was conducted as a component of the Attoyac Bayou Watershed Protection Plan to assess the physical, chemical, biological, and economic factors affecting the attainment of recreational use in the Attoyac Bayou Watershed. Results will assist the Texas Commission of Environ mental Quality (TCEQ) in establishing the most suitable water quality criteria for the watershed. No primary, secondary, or noncontact recreational activities were directly observed during two separate field surveys at any of the forty-three (43) sites. However, evidence of recreation was observed at ten (10) of the forty-three (43) survey sites. Landowner interviews (n=35) indicate secondary contact recreation as the most prevalent form of recreation in the watershed (61.5%) followed by noncontact recreation (28.8%) and primary contact recreation (9.6%). Evidence collected du ring the course of the Comprehensive Recreational Use Attainability Analysis (RUAA) in the form of stakeholder interviews, historical analysis, and physical evidence documented during two separate field surveys suggests that while primary contact recreation does take place, secondary contact recreation is the most prevalent form of recreation with the Attoyac Bayou Watershed. Execution of the Comprehensive RUAA also resulted in the development multiple suggestions for the improvement of the RUAA process.
