This intuitively blended inquiry is a study of creativity as an agent of change. This is a study of the transpersonal potential within the dialogue between artist and the work of art, as well as one's life within art. The blend of methods used heuristic inquiry as the scaffolding for the entire study as this work is a creative work of art in itself. Heuristic inquiry allowed for the conversation and expansion, the drumbeats and the silences that a living, breathing creation needs. With regard to creative process, the interpretive lenses are infinite. I use my personal experiences with my own medium (watercolor), my own fault lines and crises, and creative language to understand and relate the experiences of my participant artists. This inquiry took 2 questions into account: what is the nature of crisis within the artistic process and how does the shared space of artist and art that is penetrated by creativity as 3rd participant enlist crisis to move toward transformation? Within the heuristic vessel, intuitive inquiry provided an open channel to the unknown, unsaid, and translucent layers of meanings. Heuristic inquiry is a process that begins with a question of personal significance and primarily means seeking and discovery. As my journey into this inquiry unfolded, intuitive inquiry allowed for discerning the voice of "other" as creativity, the muse, spirit, or process. This method enlisted all ways of knowing, as those most common to our internal habitat, and then those ways we synthesize in our irrational time/space. Heuristics says that process will guide us; as the intuitive inquiry offers us aperture: through lenses, language, devices, advances in and away from focus. Intuitive inquiry, a hermeneutical journey, offered ways to balance the essentially native intuitive instincts in art making with the imaginal and the conceptual in my derivation of meaning. My ways of interpreting and knowing came from creativity itself, through story, images, regressive intuitive work, hindsight reflection, and dream work. Data were collected through personal self-examination of a 35-year-long engagement in creative dialogue, and through dialogue and experiential examinations of other artists in their transformative moments within their studio engagement. Analysis of all collected data was and continues to be translated through the researcher's own relationship to creativity, crisis, and transcendence to mosaically correlate significances.
