This practicum set out to focus on how to improve the current communication between union members and its leadership. The literature review unveiled the importance of this communication, in the interaction between membership and leadership through various mediums, especially during contractual negotiations. Over 240 hours were dedicated to attending union meetings, including but not limited to, negotiations meetings, focus groups, and the creation of and distribution of membership surveys, as well as conducting private interviews of union members and its leadership. Data collection tools were created to ascertain exactly what union members desired, and how leadership represented their issues. Collection of information included data from a membership survey, individual focus groups, and negotiations team meetings. Findings led to the creation of a new membership survey which is intended to supplement the pre-existing communication system.
