A mixed-methods study designed to view parental perspectives of parent-teacher conferences. The study took place in the spring of 2013 at a Mountain West Elementary/middle School. Parents with fourth grade children through sixth grade were invited to participate in an online survey for the quantitative portion of the study. Parents from the initial group were invited to participate in videotaped focus groups to discuss their perceptions of parent-teacher conferences. Six parents participated in two separate focus groups and three interviews. The six participants, one male, and five females were asked to detail their concerns, frustrations and celebrations on their own experiences during parent-teacher conferences. The key themes of the focus groups are: ways of care, setting and place, teachers, and other. The survey and focus group parents indicated that they wanted more of a conference setting where two consultants come together to discuss how they can help and benefit their client, the child/student.
