This research examined the effectiveness of visual art as an anger management strategy grounded in the constructivist learning theory. The research also attempted to connect the constructivist learning theory to art therapy anger management paradigms to establish an alignment between pedagogical visual arts integration and anger management strategies. Alternative high schools provide a unique context in which to infuse anger management instructional techniques where learners are expected to manage behaviors that are often rooted in anger. Hence, the aim of this research was to provide a clear link between the theoretical principles of constructivism, visual arts, anger management, and alternative education. The effectiveness of a four-week visual art anger management intervention unit was investigated. Forty alternative high school students participated in this study. All participants completed pre- and post-intervention assessments which included Discipline, Academic Achievement, and the Multidimensional Survey Anger Inventory. All participants and their teachers completed post interventions assessments and interviews.
