Thesis (Ph.D.)--Capella University, 2013.
Due to increased technology, workforces that work from remote locations, and the increasing number of mergers and acquisitions, it is imperative that leaders and employees demonstrate high levels of emotional intelligence. Additionally, the role the quality of relationships between leaders and employees significantly impacts job satisfaction. This purpose of this study was to determine whether emotional intelligence significantly impacts two variables, job satisfaction, and motivation. The study focused on looking at the relationship between a leader's emotional intelligence on employees' job satisfaction and motivation in order to determine if a correlation existed between the variables. Correlational analysis looked at the four constructs Emotional Intelligence (Perceiving Emotions, Facilitating Emotions, Understanding Emotions, and Managing Emotions) and the variables job satisfaction and motivation. Despite the insignificant findings of this study, a negative relationship was found between the construct Perceiving Emotions and both variables, job satisfaction and motivation. Furthermore, the outcome of this study contradicted with findings in other studies. In future studies, utilizing a larger sample size would improve reliability, validity, generalization, and may potentially yield significant findings.
